What ages do you work with?

What Types of Assessments do you offer?

I provide therapy for adolescents (12+), college students and young adults. I also offer parent consultation and support to help families navigate challenges together.

I provide psychological and psychoeducation evaluation to children ages 5 and up and for adults throughout the lifespan.


What concerns do you treat?

I commonly work with clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • School-related concerns

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Life transitions

  • Emotional regulation challenges

  • Parent-child concerns


I provide the following types of assessments:

  • ADHD Evaluations

  • Learning Disability/Disorder Evaluations

  • Evaluations for Diagnostic Clarity

  • Evaluations to Determine the Appropriateness of Accommodations in College Courses and/or for Standardized Evaluations


Do you offer in-person appointments?

Therapy interventions are 100% Telehealth, allowing clients throughout Arizona to receive therapy from the comfort and privacy of their own home.

Testing services are offered in person at my office in Tucson, Arizona


For therapy, how does Telehealth work?

Appointments take place through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You’ll receive a link before your appointment and can join from your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Is Telehealth effective?

Yes. Research has shown that Telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety and depression. Many clients appreciate the convenience and flexibility of receiving care from their home.


What insurances do you accept?

I currently accept for therapy services only:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Aetna

    If you have concerns about your coverage or prefer to self-pay, please contact me and I’d be happy to discuss your options.

All testing serviced are self-pay only


What if I don’t have insurance?

Private-pay appointments are available. Please contact me for current fees and payment options.


Do you offer consultations?

Yes. I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation so we can discuss your concerns, determine whether we’re a good fit, and answer any questions before scheduling your first appointment.

How soon can I be seen?

Appointment availability varies, but I strive to schedule new clients as quickly as possible. Please contact me for current availability.


Do you work with parents?

Yes. Parent consultation is an important part of my practice when appropriate. I work collaboratively with parents to help them better support their adolescent’s emotional and behavioral needs.


Will you communicate with my adolescent’s physician or school?

With your written permission, I’m happy to coordinate care with physicians, psychiatrists, school personnel, and other healthcare providers to support continuity of care.

What is your approach to therapy?

I used and evidence-based, collaborative approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. My work integrates:

  • Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT)

  • Mindfulness-Based Strategies

  • Strengths-Based Therapy

  • Family Systems Perspectives

My goal is to help clients build practical skills, increase resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change


How long are therapy sessions?

Most individual therapy sessions are between 50 and 60 minutes. During our consultation, we’ll discuss the recommended frequency of sessions based on your goals and needs.


What if I’m experiencing a mental health emergency?

My practice is not equipped to provide emergency or crisis services. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or call/text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline


What happens during a psychological evaluation?

How long does the evaluation process take?

The evaluation process generally includes:

  • An initial intake assessment

  • Comprehensive testing (usually completed over multiple days)

  • Scoring, interpretation, and report writing

  • Feedback session

  • Comprehensive written report with specifically tailored recommendations is provides



Will a diagnosis be given?

Most evaluations are completed over multiple appointments. The exact timeline depends on the referral question(s) and the types of assessments needed.


What types of tests are used?

Not necessarily. An evaluation may identify a diagnosis when appropriate, but sometimes the results could indicate that another explanation better accounts for the concerns. The goal is to provide accurate, evidence-based information rather than to simply assign a diagnosis.

Every evaluation is individualized. The specific assessment measures depend on age and the referral question(s). Instruments used may include measures of cognitive functioning, attention, executive functioning, academic achievement, memory, language, and emotional and behavioral functioning.


What will I receive after the evaluation?

You’ll receive:

  • A comprehensive written report

  • Diagnostic clarification

  • Specifically tailored recommendations for home and school

  • Guidance regarding intervention and treatment planning

  • Documentation of appropriate accommodations when clinically appropriate

  • Ongoing support from Dr. Mahoney, as needed


Can the evaluation be used to request school accommodations?

Yes. When clinically appropriate, the evaluation may provide documentation to support academic accommodations.


Can the evaluation be used for SAT, ACT, GRE, LAST, MCAT or for college disability accommodations?

Yes, if clinically appropriate and as long as Dr. Mahoney is informed at the start of the evaluation that this is a desired purpose of the evaluation, the evaluation can be tailored to meet the requirements of the overseeing bodies.


Will you meet with me/us to explain the results?

Yes. The evaluation process includes a feedback session to review the findings, answer questions and discuss recommendations.


Are psychological/psychoeducational evaluations covered by insurance?

While therapy sessions are covered by insurance, depending on your plan, Psychological/psychoeducation evaluations are self-pay. Dr. Mahoney can provide you with a “superbill” which you can use to seek reimbursement through your insurance company, there are no guarantees your insurance will reimburse for evaluation services.


Where are evaluations conducted?

Psychological evaluations are conducted in person in Tucson, Arizona.

Therapy services are provided via telehealth throughout the state of Arizona


Do I need a referral?

No. Families and individuals may self-refer, and referrals are also welcomed from physicians, schools, therapists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals.
